Green Practices are Smart Practices

Contemporary

The contemporary fixtures (to the right) meet IES standards for cutoff type optics to address requirements for glare control, light trespass and light pollution. Other options for greater light control include flat lenses, lightly diffused lenses, and houseside shields.

Period

The period fixtures (to the right) address local ordinances for disability glare. Conventional glass and plastic refractor lensed fixtures pollute the environment with glare and uncontrolled light. Avoid light pollution and stray illumination of adjoining areas with the precision reflector systems built into these traditional fixtures.

The ContraCline fixture shown to the right is compared with a typical refractor globe. The refractor globe uses the outer lens as a refractive surface to distribute the light. The result is uncontrolled light producing glare and less illumination on the ground. The ContaCline's patented reflector system directs more usable light on the ground without the glare of a refractor.

Architectural Area Lighting offers AIA/CES Courses covering topics that include environmental issues. For information on participating in this course and gaining your necessary AIA/CES credits email us at info@aal.net.
